Cataracts
Most people have some clouding of their natural crystalline lens after the age of 60. This clouding is more commonly referred to as a cataract. About 50% of Americans aged 65-74 have at least one cataract and about 70% of those age 75 and over have cataracts. Simply stated, when the lens becomes cloudy, light cannot be properly focused on the retina; thus, visual acuity decreases. The only "cure" for poor vision, due to a cataract, is removal of the lens and implantation of a lens implant.
With standard implants, your uncorrected vision (i.e., your vision without glasses or contacts) after surgery is generally good at only one specific distance. However, with premium implants your uncorrected vision is often good enough at distance, intermediate and near that you can get by without glasses or contacts for most activities. Please ask for more details about our premium lens options: ReZoom, ReSTOR and Crystalens.
Eyelid Surgery ( Blepharoplasty )
This is a surgery of the eyelid to remove extra skin. The procedure is performed using local anesthesia. Placement of the incisions is within the normal creases of the eyelids and the appropriate amount of tissue is removed.
In some patients, the upper eyelid blepharoplasty surgery procedure will improve vision by removing the excessive skin of the upper eyelids that can block vision.
Blepharoptosis is droopiness of the upper eyelid itself and is repaired by tightening the muscle which raises the eyelid.
