What is an Ophthalmologist?
An ophthalmologist – Eye M.D. – is a medical or osteopathic doctor who specializes in eye and vision care. Ophthalmologists are specially trained to provide the full spectrum of eye care, from prescribing glasses and contact lenses to complex and delicate eye surgery.
Dr. Bryan Allf, MD
Dr. Allf is a comprehensive ophthalmologist who specializes in medical and surgical diseases of the eye including cataract surgery, laser procedures, laser vision correction, and medical and surgical glaucoma. He is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio and is a graduate of Duke University and Duke University Medical School. He completed his internship at the University of Michigan Hospital and his ophthalmology residency at Duke University Medical Center.
Dr. Allf joined Carolina Eye Care in 1996. He and his wife have four children. They are active members of Gaston Community Church which he has served as Deacon and Elder. His hobbies include running marathons, biking, and drama.
Dr. Richard Akers, MD
Dr. Akers joined Dr. Eaves in 1974 as the second ophthalmologist in the area, and he specializes in comprehensive ophthalmology. He is a graduate of University of North Carolina and University of South Carolina Medical School. He completed his internship and ophthalmology residency at Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. He and his wife have 5 children and are members of First Presbyterian Church Gastonia. He also serves with Rotary International and is an avid and skilled golfer.
